March Birthstone - Aquamarine

Birthstones in jewelry can make it more personal and have been used for centuries as birthday gifts that mark the month the wearer was born. March has been associated with the bloodstone in traditional lore, but in 1912, the American National Association of Jewelers came up with a standardized list of what gem birthstone goes with what month and aquamarine was the stone given to the month of March. This is what we call the “modern" list of birthstones. Prior to this, other birthstones were associated with the birth month and these are referred to as “traditional" stones.

March, the third month of the year in the Gregorian is named after the Roman god of war mars. It's birthstone, the aquamarine is a blue beryl that is closely related to the emerald and can range in color from light blue to deep sea blue.
